Our Caterpillar Project

As a fun project this spring we decided to get caterpillars and watch them grow and change into butterflies. The kids have been inspecting them every day and we have been keeping track of what happens to them.

Day 1 - received 5 tiny caterpillars in the mail

Mason inspecting them

Day 3 - Growing a little - One died

Day 5

Day 6

Day 8 - interesting fact that we learned - The caterpillars do not spin cocoons, they split there skin to reveal the chrysalis

Day 9 - All of the caterpillars are now chrysalis

Day 10- We moved them into the Butterfly habitat

Caleb thought this was really funny because all of them started shaking as a defense mechanism.

Hooked in the habitat - now we just wait

Caleb's Party

We had Caleb's party early because of the baby coming soon. He requested a solar system cake complete with the asteroid belt and a Jupiter pinata

He and I made the pinata together
